Digital Week
As members of the DADI Awards you may be interested to hear and be involved in Digital Week, held the week of the DADI Awards in Leeds.
Digital Week 2009 beginning on 9th November, is growing up and spreading out across the region. For the second year in a row, Digital Week will host for a week of events, talks and workshops to explore the bright future for Yorkshire’s digital and creative industries. Organisers are predicting a bigger turnout on the back of 2008’s popular events in Leeds, as even more digital professionals from the region take the opportunity to demonstrate how they are fighting the economic downturn with creative and technical flair.
Digital Week is organized by Holbeck Urban Village, and Leeds Media, with continued investment from Marketing Leeds and Yorkshire Forward.
Digital Week 2009 has announced its plans to expand across the region in order to involve even more businesses from the growing creative and digital sectors, with events expected in Leeds, Huddersfield, Bradford, Sheffield & Scarborough. In 2008, the first Digital Week events in Leeds included a round table discussion about the future of print media as the internet continues to dominate, a knowledge auction, breakfast briefings, networking and practical showcases. Digital Week 09 will focus on buying local, and look at how certain towns and cities here are becoming knowledge-rich in particular subjects such as 3D Design, social marketing, music, digital art practice, training and professional development.
Gillian Wallace, Head of Operations at Leeds Media, now part of Leeds, Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce said: The expansion of Digital Week is further proof that Yorkshire’s Creative & Digital Industries are weathering the economic storm and well placed to innovate their way through the months ahead. Digital Week will gather together Yorkshire’s best who represent a sector of 123,025 people and bring £5.2bn value to the region.
Leanne Buchan from Holbeck Urban Village said: It’s an exciting time for anyone working in this sector, and particularly in this region. Yorkshire as a front-runner in the digital race is well documented already, but we need to stay at the top of our game, improve connections locally and reach out nationally. There are clear hubs of activity emerging in towns and cities across Yorkshire and the organisers felt it was the right time to broaden out Digital Week’s remit across the region.
