With years of experience in building brands, Sakuma leads the global brand marketing communication capabilities in retail merchandising, new product commercialization, sustainability, public relations, e-commerce, creative, and social media. She is also spearheading The LYCRA Company’s digital transformation, including the launch of new websites and innovative digital tools.

Before her new role, Sakuma served as director of global ready-to-wear, denim, and woven segments, leading a team that developed and commercialized solutions that addressed unmet consumer needs in these categories. Sakuma also previously held the role of Regional Business Director for South America for five years in São Paulo, Brazil. Prior to that, she was the company’s Global Brand and Communications Director.

Sakuma has worked at DUPONT, INVISTA, and The LYCRA Company in various roles from sales and marketing to branding and communications. She was also responsible for licensing the LYCRA® brand into other categories, including the beauty industry. Sakuma has worked in different company offices, including the US, Switzerland, and Brazil and is currently based in Barcelona, Spain.

Sakuma earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and obtained her bachelor’s degree in business management from Fundação Getulio Vargas’s São Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP). She also has earned technical certifications in textiles from Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial (SENAI), fashion from Universidade Paulista (UNIP), and marketing from Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM). Recently Denise received a certification on Digital Transformation from MIT online courses.
