Mark is a proven marketing leader with two decades of experience in financial services. Mark has a track record of delivering significant marketing transformation within data-rich and digitally led businesses. He is known for building, developing, and leading high-performing marketing teams. In 2017, Mark was named as ‘UK Marketing Leader of the Year’ by the Financial Services Forum.
Mark spent 18 successful years at Barclays Bank PLC. In his role as Marketing Director, Barclays UK - Mark led a team of over 150 marketing professionals across all of Barclays’ B2C & B2B segments within the UK. Amongst his achievements - Mark created a Content Marketing function to work across all digital and non-digital communication channels; built a sophisticated new Performance Marketing programme; and launched Barclays first ever in-house Creative Studio capability. Mark chaired Barclays’ Marketing Leadership Committee. Mark's previous leadership roles, all within marketing, digital and communications, included: PR, Insight, Product Marketing, CRM, Advertising & Brand Management and Digital Innovation.
In 2019, Mark launched his own bespoke marketing and leadership consultancy. His clients were predominantly FinTech and high-growth businesses, who were looking to scale quickly and confidently. Mark also acts as a Marketing Advisor for the Save The Children charity.
Mark joined Yorkshire Building Society in June 2020 to lead their recently convened Marketing, Brand, Digital Channels, PR and External Affairs teams. He is now overseeing a full technical and cultural transformation to embed the function more effectively within the YBS Group and align outcomes to ExCo and Board priorities.
Mark grew up in the Lake District but now lives in Hertfordshire, following 15 years spent in London. As well as spending time with his wife and his two young sons, Mark's other key passion-points are often sport related - be that playing, coaching or simply spectating!
